Fed: Increased home loan grant should be extended: broker

An independent mortgage broker says .. the housing market's getting a major boost from
the federal government's boost to to the first home owner's grant.

The Loan Market Group says new data showing a surge in the number of home loans granted
to first time buyers in December .. is likely to continue into the first quarter of this
year .. aided by interest rate cuts.

But executive director JOHN KOLENDA .. says the government should extend the period
of the increased home loan grant from its June deadline .. until at least the end of this
year.
