NSW: State govt takes a beating in Newspoll
The NSW government has taken a beating in the latest opinion poll .. after a month
of dramatic ructions within the state Labor Party.
The Newspoll .. published in The Australian newspaper today .. shows primary support
for the government fell four percentage points in the past fortnight to 26 per cent ..
compared to the coalition's 44 per cent up two points.
The Australian says the figure again represents the lowest primary support for any
incumbent government in NSW .. last recorded in the same period last year .. when former
premier MORRIS IEMMA was dumped.
On a two-party preferred basis .. 59 per cent of voters back the Coalition .. up four
percentage points .. while 41 per cent support Labor .. down four points.
Nearly half .. 45 per cent .. believe Premier KRISTINA KENEALLY will be the same kind
of leader as NATHAN REES .. who was dumped in a leadership spill on December 3.
But her supporters will argue the results should be taken with a grain of salt .. given
the voting public barely knows her.
The poll shows Opposition Leader BARRY O'FARRELL'S satisfactory rating has jumped from
38 per cent in September-October .. to 44 per cent in November-December.
