WA: WA police behind summit on child abuse
PERTH, Dec 12 AAP - Western Australia's Police Commissioner Karl O'Callaghan would
support a summit on child abuse, proposed today by NSW Police Commissioner Ken Moroney.
A spokesman for Mr O'Callaghan said today that Mr Moroney's calls for such a summit
with community and government agencies had merit and would receive support from the state's
police service.
"I think it is definitely fair to say that Mr O'Callaghan would support it," the spokesman said.
He said in Western Australia there had been a distinct increase in the past few years
in the number of child abuse cases reported to police.
"More cases have definitely been reported in recent years and it is a serious issue
that we need to continue to address," the spokesman said.
