CIA WARNS ATTACKS COULD HIT THIS WEEK.(MAIN)

WASHINGTON -- On a day of heightened security nationally and abroad, CIA director George Tenet warned that al-Qaida terrorists could strike Americans as soon as this week.

Tenet said intelligence officials have information on plots aimed at targets in the United States and the Arabian Peninsula that could include the use of radiological dispersion devices, as well as poison and chemicals.

He said the intelligence is ``the most specific we have seen,'' and that the plots might occur toward the end of this week, coinciding with the end of the annual five-day hajj to the holy Saudi city of Mecca.
