NEW DEAL UPROOTS GARDEN WAY CEO.(BUSINESS)

TROY Garden Way chairman Jairo A. Estrada is stepping down from day-to-day management of the company he owns as part of a deal with creditors to restore the company to financial health.

The lawn and garden equipment manufacturer, which has been struggling to rebuild its business, said Thursday it has reached a deal with a number of lenders to restructure its debt and to bring more cash into the company.

As part of the bargain, Estrada, 47, the company's longtime chief executive and chairman, quit those positions and handed day-to-day control to Keith L. Alm, 51, a recently hired executive from Sara Lee Co. Alm joined the company in early 1995, apparently as Estrada's …
