Rep. Henry Cuellar, R-Texas (28th CD), issued the following press release:
Today, Rep. Henry Cuellar announced that Poteet ISD has been awarded $44,783 in grants from the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC) for internet access and telecommunications service. USAC is a federal program administered by the FCC.
"USAC is an essential service that America's schools benefit from year after year. Without these funds, the American taxpayers would foot this rather large bill." Congressman Cuellar noted.
The funds were obtained through the School and Libraries program of the Universal Service Administrative Company, which is maintained through contributions made by telecommunications providers across the country and extends discounts to assist most schools and libraries in the United States to obtain affordable telecommunications and Internet access.
Congressman Cuellar also said, "Internet access has become a staple of the classrooms across the country. It provides an invaluable depth of knowledge that helps our students grow intellectually."
